LATTC Design and Media Arts student, Henry Kemp Receives VIP LA Kings Experience through LA Metro GoPass

LATTC student, Henry Kemp rides the zamboni during intermission while at his VIP LA Kings game day experience.
LATTC Design and Media Arts student, Henry Kemp had never been to a hockey game, but always wanted to go. On March 3, Henry crossed that item off his bucket list in style, not only attending a game, but receiving LA Kings VIP suite tickets and a prized seat on the Zamboni, while waving to thousands of fans during intermission. You could say all it took was a ride on the Metro.
LA Metro first rolled out its in 2021, providing free transit to LA County K鈥14 students at participating schools. It has since grown in popularity, partnering with more than 100 school districts and 1,400 schools. As of last spring, more than 241,000 students have registered with the GoPass program, generating over 16.6 million boardings on the Metro system since the program began.
鈥淚 heard about the LA Metro GoPass from a friend on campus who was part of the program and learned that by being a LA Community College District student, you can receive free rides on the Metro system,鈥 says Kemp. 鈥淏eing a part of the Metro GoPass program has helped me so much, not only in getting to school but also just with everyday commuting to get around Los Angeles. I am in the fashion program at LATTC and often have to run to the fashion district to grab different fabrics and material for projects. Having the Metro pass has helped with that commute and transporting my materials.鈥
Approximately one-quarter of students at 星空传媒 reported regularly using public transit to attend class before the pandemic, with cost being a top concern. With more than half of 星空传媒 students living below the poverty line, saving money on bus or train fares every day can free up resources for other basic life necessities so they can focus on their educational success.
Earlier this year, LA Metro held a special promotion for GoPass students where they would be automatically entered to win a VIP experience with the LA Kings if they rode Metro with their GoPass during the month of January. Henry was the randomly selected student winner.
As for the experience itself, it was a success. 鈥淲atching the game in a VIP suite was a great experience,鈥 says Henry. 鈥淓veryone in the suite was very friendly and our seats had a bird鈥檚 eye view of the whole game. I had also never ridden on a Zamboni before, and it was great being in front of the fans who were enjoying the game and waving back all smiles. I鈥檓 grateful to have won and to have had this experience.鈥
